Polyglass Launches PolyVap SA S – A Low Slope Self-Adhered Air/Vapor Barrier

Polyglass U.S.A., Inc., a leading manufacturer of building envelope and waterproofing solutions, unveils its latest breakthrough product – PolyVap SA S.  Engineered for superior performance in commercial low-slope roofing applications, PolyVap SA S sets a new standard with its exceptional dual-functionality as a high-performance air and vapor barrier. This innovative solution ensures optimal protection and longevity for low-slope roofs, making it an ideal choice for commercial buildings seeking advanced roofing materials.

PolyVap SA S features a high-strength polypropylene sheet with an aggressive acrylic-based adhesive on the bottom, ensuring a bond with most substrates.  This carrierless membrane roofing is surfaced with a slip-resistant top surface to enhance walkability and can serve as a temporary roofing system for up to 180 days.

Key Applications

  • Air/vapor barrier in low-slope or flat roof applications
  • Can be used as a temporary roof for up to 180 days
  • Ideal for use on steel deck, OSB, plywood, gypsum, and thermal boards

PolyVap SA S serves dual purpose as an air/vapor barrier and a temporary roof.  Its flat top surface is compatible with approved coverboards and Polytherm insulation, allowing for mechanical attachment or adhesion with Polyglass LRF CR (low-rise foam) adhesive.

Performance Highlights

  • Versatile dual-use air/vapor barrier and temporary roof membrane
  • Up to 180 exposure
  • Impermeable to air, moisture, and water
  • Aggressive self-adhesive for exceptional wind uplift performance
  • Direct to metal roof deck application – no primer required
  • Weather install temperatures from 20oF and rising
  • Qualifies for a Roof System Warranty (RSW) when installed with an approved Polyglass assembly

Surface Preparation for Application

Steel surfaces must be free of oil residue and moisture. Wood decks must be dry to the touch and clean of dirt and dust. PolyVap SA S can be installed at temperatures of 20°F (-6°C) and rising, without the need for a primer. Its white surface helps reduce overall temperature gain during installation.

Application Instructions

For steel decks, align the membrane so that both end laps rest on the top of the flutes.

  • Before installing PolyVap SA S, cut it into manageable lengths. Start at the lowest point of the existing roof pitch and position the material on the roof decking.
  • Once the sheet is in place, remove a few inches of the top portion of the release film by pulling it upwards and away from the top of the sheet. Press the exposed adhesive side of PolyVap SA S onto the roof deck to secure it and prevent movement.
  • Continue removing the release film from the top half of the sheet at a 45° angle.
  • Apply firm, even pressure from the center to the outer edges to ensure full contact with the substrate.
  • Remove the remaining bottom half of the release film by pulling it smoothly downward at a 45° angle from end to end.
  • Thoroughly roll the PolyVap SA S with a 75 lb split-faced roller uniformly across the entire sheet to ensure complete and even contact. Keep the roller on the top flutes to avoid damaging the membrane.
  • Install the membrane so that all laps shed water by positioning succeeding sheets with overlapping seams. Align side laps with the lay line provided on the membrane’s surface.
  • At the end of each roll, install a metal sheet plate (24 GA x 6″ W) to support the end lap between flutes. Ensure that 6″ (15.2 cm) end laps are maintained on the metal sheet plate for each course during installation. Hand roll the end lap to ensure uniform, even pressure on the seam.
